Pilates Helps Every Body
Pilates is great for every body of every age, and that includes those who are already active. No matter what kind of sport you play or which exercise you already do regularly, adding Pilates to the mix will only benefit you. Pilates not only helps maintain a flexible body, but it actually can help regain lost flexibility. It also includes a breathing component that helps improve your respiratory capacity. All of these benefits can give you an edge in your current training or workout routine.
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a form of exercise that was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. It is a mind–body exercise technique that focuses on building core strength, improving flexibility, increasing balance as well as strength and enhancing the ability to focus and concentrate. It is designed to help individuals build a strong toned and balanced body.
Is Pilates safe for seniors?
Joseph Pilates believed age was not measured in years, but in the flexibility of your spine. It’s never too late to learn to use your body in a smarter, more efficient fashion. Pilates is safe for everyone at every age. In fact, Pilates can even be practiced sitting upright in a chair and the loss of flexibility that we associate with aging can be reversed.
What is the upcoming May 21st workshop about?
In this “Pilates for Healthy Aging” workshop, the emphasis is on quality of movement. The exercises are performed with control, precision and fluidity, with a focus on slowing down, staying aware of your body by breathing and using proper alignment. There is a way to modify and still get exercise.
This is a great introduction for beginners but an advanced student can still return to beginner exercises for a reboot of basic skills or to focus with new understanding.
