Kids, Teens and Family: Yoga and Other Offerings

Sellwood Yoga is proud to offer a wide range of classes for people at every stage of life, including children of all ages! Drop your child off for a nourishing yoga class just for them, or come to a monthly Family Yoga Friday and practice as a family. Plus, many of our classes are appropriate for pregnancy if your doctor has given you the go-ahead; please email info@sellwoodyoga.com with any questions about beginning or continuing a practice when you’re expecting.

Kids, Teens and Family classes at Sellwood Yoga and Align Fitness

We offer Family Yoga classes for families with children ages two through ten on the fourth Friday of each month. Through fun partner poses, creative breathing exercises and simple relaxation techniques, parents, caregivers and children create the roots for a lifelong practice together. As a past participant says, “Great fun, a way to introduce your kids to yoga so that they want to learn more!”

We also hold weekly Yoga and Mindfulness for Girls classes for girls ages 10-14. These classes teach calming and self-soothing techniques, relieve stress and anxiety, and build strength, self-confidence and flexibility. Once a month we offer an afternoon retreat for this age group—two hours of yoga, mindfulness, movement, art, writing, and more!

 New mothers can take our Baby Bootcamp class and join other moms in a strength- and endurance-building class to elevate your heart rate and re-engage core strength, all while keeping your little one close by. Students may bring their new babies age 3-12 months (as long as you feel comfortable wearing them in a front carrier for 60 minutes). New mamas can also join one of our Mamalates series. Mamalates is an OB/GYN endorsed, Pilates based, restorative exercise method for mom and baby. Focus is on modifications, proper alignment, and core re-connection to help you realign, reclaim, stabilize postpartum.

The studio also offers Yoga and Mindfulness for Kids classes a few times a year; these series classes are designed for children ages five through nine. Through traditional & creative yoga poses, storytelling, singing, dancing, games and relaxation your child will experience the joys of yoga in a safe environment.

Meanwhile, in our Kids Fitness Series, children ages 4-10 will have fun with physical literacy games, running/jogging/walking, quadrupedal movement, and exercises involving push, pulls, lifts, and tosses.

Finally, we offer a 10-Hour Kids Yoga Teacher Training 1-2 times per year. This in-depth training will prepare you for teaching yoga to children in a variety of settings (ex. schools, yoga studios, enrichment programs, therapeutic settings).
