We love seeing friendships develop from practicing together at Sellwood Yoga. Two of our students got to know each other through attending some of the same classes and recently discovered that they were each hitting a personal milestone: 300 classes at our studio! That warranted a celebration! But the number of classes is not the goal. It is about what keeps you going and brings you back to the mat.
Meet Alder!

What brought you to Sellwood Yoga?
Class/instructor variety, beautiful studio space, and a desire to find an invigorating movement practice after a sluggish COVID era.
Describe your experience as a new student at Sellwood Yoga.
I was initially very intimidated to join a yoga studio but felt immediately comfortable when I saw the wide variety of student age-ranges and abilities in the classes I was taking at Sellwood Yoga. The instructors have always been very kind and supportive, and I deeply appreciate the “come as you are” and “take what you need” philosophy of Sellwood Yoga.
What made you stay at Sellwood Yoga?
The high caliber instruction and the variety of classes.
What are some of your favorite classes and why?
Christine Morita-McVey’s Monday Morning Yoga – I love the balance focus, the instruction style, and being in the studio in the morning light is divine.
Annie Kobliska-Becker’s Tuesday Evening Vinyasa Flow – A slower pace that provides room for me to focus on my breath and intention – and I love that the class ends with a mantra chant.
Kari Kemper’s Wednesday Evening Vinyasa Flow – Lots of variety week to week, creative transitions that keep me on my toes, and lots of balance/strength poses.
Savonn Wyland’s Saturday Yoga – A slower pace with lots of detailed anatomy descriptions that help me fine-tune my form. It feels like group therapy!
Meet Rachel!

What brought you to Sellwood Yoga?
I moved to Portland mid-summer 2022 for a teaching job. Not one for big changes, the transition was giving me some anxiety so I decided to give yoga a try.
What made you stay at Sellwood Yoga?
I had tried out a few yoga studios in the past but mostly took one-off classes. I love how it feels to walk into this studio. It is an easy, comfortable, unpretentious space. The strength and flexibility I have gained over the past couple years has also been surprising and pretty exciting. I could barely touch my knees when I first showed up, let alone my toes.
What are some of your favorite classes
Savonn Wyland, Bill Wyland, Jess Nason, and Kari Kemper are my dream team.
Thank you, Alder and Rachel, for being part of our Sellwood Yoga community!
