Learn how to support, protect and heal your back with yoga. In each class of this series, you will learn how to use your body’s natural strengths, a yoga studio’s props and make your own adjustments to accommodate lower back sensitivities in a variety of yoga poses and common pose sequences.
We will explore and learn poses that will increase your back and core strength, increase flexibility, and raise awareness of your body’s individual needs. You will learn how to adjust and modify your yoga practice to best fit your body and the needs of your spine in order to make your time on the mat more comfortable and effective. The classes will help you gain strength, flexibility, and confidence. You will also learn effective stress management and relaxation techniques. There will be time for mindful exploration of a variety of poses and collaborative time with Janet in order to feel confident about how to care for yourself on the mat and beyond.
After having back surgery in 2008, Janet lived with high levels of chronic pain until she found an accommodating and steady yoga practice at Sellwood Yoga. She is excited to bring what she has learned through becoming a yoga teacher and as a chronic pain survivor to support you and your goals.
