Regular class rates.
Join Maria for this new weekly class! Drawing on principles of Iyengar (alignment-based), Vinyasa (flow) and classical Hatha yoga, Hatha classes move through a variety of postures, themes and focuses. The content of the classes will be chosen to suit those present and energy of the group, working toward a balanced body and mind: aware, powerful, and present. The pace may be slower than that of a Vinyasa Flow class, which makes Hatha classes valuable for both beginners and experienced practitioners; providing time and attention to the foundation, alignment and subtleties of each posture. Students are guided out of their trouble spots so they can express each pose in a way that suits and addresses their individual needs. The class will include asanas (poses), pranayama (breathing practices) and meditation in order to address health and well being on all levels.
Instructor — Maria Williquette
Maria Williquette is a yoga teacher and psychotherapist who recently relocated to Portland from Seattle. She has been teaching yoga with an emphasis on using yoga therapeutically for 10 years, and she frequently teaches workshops and retreats about using yoga as a tool for healing.
Although more days than not Maria can be found practicing and teaching yoga, she is also an avid gardener, reader, hiker, and world traveler. While traveling, Maria has studied yoga in places as diverse as Argentina, South Africa, India, and Nepal and has completed two 200-hour yoga teacher trainings and extensive ongoing education (she is currently enrolled in a 500-hour training). Maria holds a Master’s Degree in counseling psychology and has a private practice in Portland for counseling and coaching clients. It is her passion to combine the wisdom of yoga with the study of psychology to create a therapeutic and deeply healing yoga practice.
As a teacher, Maria embodies depth and connection, joy and creativity. She will certainly arrive to class with a smile, and she delights in connecting with every student who attends class with her. Both on and off the mat, Maria looks to each moment of each day for opportunities to learn and to practice gratitude.
