“Attending class with Maria often feels like a mini-retreat and I always leave feeling more grounded and at ease. She is incredibly skillful at folding in Yogic wisdom into her classes that always seem to have an uncanny timing into whatever I’m dealing with at the moment (how does she know??!). Maria has an enormously warm and welcoming heart and I always feel incredibly held in her classes. I am so grateful for her teachings and for her generosity in sharing her loving presence.”

Maria Williquette is a yoga teacher and psychotherapist licensed in both WA and OR. She has been teaching yoga with an emphasis on using yoga therapeutically for over 14 years, and she frequently teaches workshops, yoga teacher trainings, and retreats focused on the deeper aspects of yoga.

Maria has been traveling to India for years and her time there (and in Nepal and Sri Lanka) has profoundly deepened her practice and understanding of yoga. She has completed two 200-hour yoga teacher trainings and a 300-hour advanced yoga teacher training, and she has extensive ongoing education in the philosophy and psychology of yoga. Maria holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology and has a private counseling practice in Sellwood. It is her passion to combine the wisdom of yoga with the study of psychology to create a therapeutic and deeply healing yoga practice.

As a teacher, Maria embodies depth and connection, joy and creativity. She will certainly arrive to class with a smile, and she delights in connecting with every student who attends class with her. Both on and off the mat, Maria continually strives to learn and grow from every moment, from every interaction, and from every possibility that life offers. She is also a mom of two little kiddos, an avid gardener, and a voracious consumer of books.

“Maria’s yoga classes have been essentially important to me especially during the recent challenging years of pandemic and political and social unrest. The hours I spend in her classes not only give my body what it needs, they also replenish my soul and calm my mind. Maria possesses a deep and wide kindness combined with a brilliant understanding of psychology AND she’s an incredible yoga instructor! This combination make her classes both mentally and physically therapeutic for me and I am so very grateful she is part of the fantastic team at Sellwood Yoga!”

“I look forward to Hatha Yoga with Maria every week (and hopefully twice a week if I can fit it in) because her kind voice and gentle way is such a welcome respite from the crazy world we are living in. I also greatly appreciate the yoga philosophy she adds in with the movement and poses. Every class, Maria will throw out an observation or tidbit to ponder which is always spot on and exactly what I need at the time. It is almost as if she is a mind-reader. I leave every class feeling better physically, emotionally and spiritually.”
